If I was not stressed out and depressed enough already... life decides to show up on my doorstep, ransack my house and shit in my shoe.
My house is 85 degrees with the windows open and fans blowing.
My air conditioning unit is not working.... in middle Tennessee.... in summer....
If there is a God.... he really fucking hates me and if he doesn't hate me? Then he must be Loki... and if he is Loki... then someone please quickly contact Donald Blake...
Anyways, someone is supposed to be out at 10 am to look at it and try and fix it. Hopefully it just needs to be recharged.
Ok I lied, I just wanted to say 'nuff said. I don't know about anyone else, but when I saw this picture... I really did say "Holy Shit, that's Iron Man".

Make sure you watch the video at the end.
Ok, in the last week I have picked up a few DVDs and I have been itching to talk about them, but I have been so busy.
So let's talk movies...
Movie #1... Idiocracy. This Mike Judge movie starring Luke Wilson. Fox did 0 promotion of this film. They released it but it was as if Fox hated the movie. That they had to release it due to contract. Here is a snippet from Wikipedia.
In April 2006, a release date was finally set for September 1, 2006. But less than a month before it was set for release, numerous articles [1] revealed that the film's release was to be put on hold indefinitely. Although the release went ahead as planned, it was only a limited release (125 theaters), as opposed to a wide one (2,500-3,000). Initially, the film had been released only in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Toronto, Chicago, Dallas, Houston and Mike Judge's hometown, Austin.
According to the Austin American-Statesman[2], 20th Century Fox,
the film's distributor, has done nothing to promote the movie — while
there were posters released to theatres there were no trailers,
television spots, or even press kits for media outlets provided. This
has led to speculation in some quarters that 20th Century Fox may be
actively trying to keep the film from being seen by a large audience,
while fulfilling a contractual obligation to release the film in
theaters before releasing it on DVD. However, due to Fox's reluctance to provide concrete information, various theories surfaced.[3] In a New York Times article Dan Mitchell has argued that Fox might be shying away from a cautionary tale about low-intelligence dysgenics. [4] John Patterson of The Guardian suggests it is a result of the film's anti-corporate message, noting that in the film Starbucks now delivers handjobs, Fuddruckers' name has been changed to "Buttfuckers," and the motto of Carl's Jr. has devolved to "Fuck You! I'm Eating!" [5]
(A Carl's Jr. vending machine is depicted ripping off a customer.) The
film also satirizes soft drink manufacturers, with the fictional
company Brawndo in the film controlling large swathes of the U.S.
government (to the detriment of mankind).
This movie was brilliantly done in my opinion, the site gags alone were worth it. This movie has had the exact same effect on me as 'Office Space' had. At first viewing it was fun, but not great... but then each additional viewing you love it more and more and then suddenly you are quoting the movie and making yourself giggle. Great movie. I really enjoyed it... so go rent it.
Movie #2... Seven Swords: Donnie Yen stars in this movie as Chu Zhaonan. I initially picked up this movie because of Donnie Yen and the plot on the back of the DVD makes it sound like a retelling of The Seven Samurai. At first I thought it was a retelling of that famous movie by Akira Kurosawa and starring Toshiro Mifune.
Seven Swords is a Wuxia film, but unlike other Wuxias... this one uses very little wire work. In fact one fight sequence takes place in a very narrow corridor and it left both myself and my wife in shock over how they choreographed it. The fight is between Donnie Yen and Sun Hong-Lei's character Fire-Wind.
Amazing visuals and beautifully shot. I highly reccomend this movie if you enjoy these types of Asian movies.
The 3rd DVD I picked up was a Huge Disappointment. It was from Marvel Comics and it is a DVD collection of all the Ultimates X-Men comics up to 2006. I thought this would play in a DVD player and be interactive comics that I could read on my TV or computer. I have seen such comic collections before and since this was located under the DVD movies section of the local Best Buy, that is what I thought.
Oh how wrong I was. It is a collection of PDF files, which was unexpected, but I was cool with it. I can print them up this way and read them...
WRONG...
When you print them up, a giant MARVEL watermark imposes itself over the images.
Now, I could just read them at my computer right? Sure can, but see they did not just use the original panels to construct this DVD. No, they simply unstapled an existing comic and then scanned them into PDF format. So you can see all the scan lines and faded colors. They could not even do a decent scan job.
This is horrible. Possibly the worst thing I have ever seen done and I fully intend to write a letter to Marvel Comics and complain about this.
While the cost was only $9, I have seen better scans done on Bit Torrent.
Words alone could not convey how crappily this was put together. When I get home tonight I will take a screen shot of a typical pane for you all to see.
Dave Cockrum passed away.
Wow, I grew up on this man's illustrations. He did the X-Men... The X-men was a failure when it was first around and Cockrum along with Len Wein created Colossus, Nightcrawler, Storm and even Mystique.
He was a massive fan of comics and his creations really stuck with me
through my childhood. He passed away Sunday at the age of 65 due to complications from diabetes. He was wearing his Superman pajamas and was under his Batman blanket. Wow... what a way to go out in life. Surrounded by his wife and family and with his hobbies. How many of us get to do what we love?
I read this story and I began to tear up. Some people had Superman, Spider-man and Batman to grow up on, for me it was Cockrum's art in X-Men. He inspired me and I am a bit heart broken today at this news.
I am geeking out over this one.
The new Spider-Man 3 movie trailer hit online this week.
I still want to see some Venom shots, that is the only thing missing from this trailer.
Ok, over at Scifi.com I read the following...
Soap Opera Introduces A Superhero
Marvel Comics has partnered with CBS' daytime soap opera Guiding Light to produce an episode in which a character is zapped by an electrical current and becomes infused with superpowers, including the ability to levitate and to conduct electricity, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The episode, set to air Nov. 1, involves the show's Harley Davidson Cooper character, played by Beth Ehlers. As part of the deal, Marvel will produce an eight-page insert for some of its top comic titles that involves Marvel characters descending on Light's fictional town of Springfield to determine whether the new superhero is friend or foe.
Wolverine is going to find out that the woman he is dating is really a man, Spider-Man to be exact. Then Benjamin Grimm, The Thing will find out that Sue Storm's baby is not Reed's but instead is the love child of herself and Kraven the hunter.
Back in the ER, Mysterio is still in his coma while Galactus and Silver Surfer look on with grim determination.
Will Elektra find out about the love triangle between Cable, Nightcrawler and Spiral?
Will IronMan profess his love to Ghostrider?
Is Venom the Secret Love Child of Luke Cage and Ironfist?
Is this the most absurd news story you ever read?
Stay tuned true believers....![]()
Ok, so, old news, Iron Man the Movie is being made. I found it interesting that Marvel held on to the Iron Man license on purpose.
They hired Jon Favreau to direct it and Avi Arid stepped down as Marvel's Editor in Chief to run the Marvel Entertainment Division... and if you look at his IMDB profile, you will see the massive Super Hero movies in the works that he is working as producer on.
- Submariner
- Ant-Man
- Deathlok
- Wolverine
- Captain America
- Nick Fury
- Werewolf By Night
- Magneto
- Fantastic Four 2
- Iron Fist
- Thor
- The Punisher 2
- Spider-Man 3
This is great news for some of these licenses that have been...a little...eh...
The Punisher was an ok movie, it could have been so much better and now that Avi is directly involved in them now maybe we will see the movies we had originally wanted to see.
Now Da Brown Man and myself were talking about casting for the Iron Man movie. They have announced that the main villain is Mandarin.
So who is Tony Stark? Da Brown Man suggested Tom Cruise and Potty Mouth suggested Colin Farrell on the simple basis that he is the Anti Tom Cruise. lol
Comment to tell me who you think should be cast...
Stay Tuned True Believers...
*UPDATE
I forgot to post whom I thought should play Tony Stark...
Nick Chinlund should be Iron Man... I doubt he would ever get hired, the studios probably want a BIG name and not necessarily the best person.
In my ever so humble opinion... Nick Chinlund could easily be Tony. He has the voice that has been in my head when reading Iron Man, he has the hair... the chin... and he is a cool actor. His role of Toombs in the "Chronicles of Riddick" was fantastic, I also enjoyed his role of Jacob McGivens in the "Legend of Zorro".
I just received an email from Marvel Entertainment. The official title of the Fantastic Four Sequel is "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer"
Knowing that the Surfer was the herald of Galactus... could this end up being the ultimate super hero movie?
The premise has potential and Michael Chiklis and Chris Evans were perfectly cast as The Thing and The Human Torch.
We will see...
I have not collected Comic Books in over 10 years. I was a long time fan, I loved to read them then seal em up and put em away for a while and then I would pull them out and reread them. I was a collector sure, but I actually enjoyed my collection.
When I collected, starting at something like age 8, Comic Books were 65 cents an issue. When I finally got fed up and stopped was when they were $4.95 each and to finish reading a single story arc you had to jump from the X-men to the Avengers to Fantastic Four. I was downright sick of it all. If I decided to bypass getting those books to "complete" a story arc, I would miss everything that happened, because the very next issue was something else with different characters.
I walked away and I walked away fast.
Then the X-Men movies started to hit the screens and I really missed reading about my favorite band of mutants. I would go to the shops and just thumb through a few issues and I literally recognized about 2 of my mutants. There were hundreds of new ones... so I slinked away... disappointed.
This weekend I stepped foot into a comic book shop again and I was shocked and further let down by comic books. The art, they went Japanese. I love Manga and Anime, I really do... I love the style... but American comic books had it's own style. I enjoyed that style as well and my X-men were gone now, divided up into five or six different X-Men books.
Then my eyes landed on the Civil War mini series and I thumbed through it, there was the style. A little updated, but it was still there. I picked up the first three issues and I am really enjoying the heck out of them. While Civil War does cross over into a bazillion other comics, at least the story lines in this series are rather self contained.
I am going to get back into comic books again. Just a title or two.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Something that I can get into without paying an arm and a leg to get past issues?
I want something I can just pick up and get into and enjoy. If I want an entire story arc I will just wait for a trade paperback of it.
